Happy Morning Break 🥣
This morning break is taking a look at the Caribbean-built identity from a PR standpoint. Do our current structures speak to a modern identity? do they tell anyone anything about who we are?
Welcome to "Morning Break" with me, G!
For those who may not know Morning Break is my informal... very informal 😂... 1 minute musings about art, culture, creativity, and just about anything I believe is important to building strong #WiMade - West Indian Made - brands. All from your friendly Cultural Curator!

This is Morning Break!
The informal (very informal 😂) 1 minute musings and views of me G, aka Georgina Callender on the cultural spaces we currently occupy and the ones we should be interested in.
I discuss what's happening locally and abroad, including cool finds, events we should explore and points of inspiration. Any and everything that will help us build #WiMade - West Indian Made - Brands.
To start us off I'm focusing on the Caribbean competitive advantage, our unique culture and regional personality. "Embracing our culture is a necessary luxury because it's what gives us intrinsic value in a global marketplace when cultural homogeny is becoming the norm."
Enjoy!

I am claiming the year 2022 as the Year of the Monkey, the Bajan Green Monkey. The Year we start putting our foot down and shouting from the rooftops “This is Wi culture!”.. and we’re not changing it (anymore) to make you happy.
Before December 1st we hide our love for Christmas trees while tearfully chewing conkies. Why must it be so? I say no more! Here comes the next big West Indian, Caribbean holiday! And I am calling it IndeMas; a fusion of Christmas and Independence, an innovative way to preserve culture and do the holidays our way. Cause no one does Christmas or should I say IndeMas like a West Indian.
We live with regional imposter syndrome that makes many of us give our cultural birthright away, like the sad tale of Barbadian Sea Island cotton. The Folk is gone from our Character. We place the knowledge of our gifts in the wrong places with the wrong people. This has made us question if we are truly worthy. It’s time we learn our culture is our gift and we determine how we share it with the world.
We assign meaning to people, places and things. Sometimes people, places or things ditch a name to create a new meaning or association, essentially a new Brand. Maybe it's time for us to ditch the mythical “Caribbean” brand as seen on tv. Could "The West Indies" be our brand pivot? Read on and find out!
Life of G is about more than me. I created it as the home of my visions and creative projects. What I hope for and what I want to build my country and region into. Take the journey with me as I explore the best way to Made in the West Indies.

Let’s take a look at how our own indigenous designs can produce more climate-ready architecture
Happy Morning Break!
This was the first official Morning Break for 2023! I want to focus on the wise words of ALYSSA-AMOR GIBBONS and the use of indigenous designs for more climate-ready architecture. I've always wondered why we moved away from the tried and true designs of the Chattel House but I'm so glad we're returning to these West Indian Made #WiMade designs.
