Every other day in Barbadian media you can find discussion on our UNESCO designated World Heritage Site: Bridgetown and The Garrison. All of these discussions focus on tourism development: how do we look at (luxury) development, modernity and preservation while walking a path for future economic growth?
Are these opposing ideas or can they work in tandem?
Well this question lead me to reach out to Down To Brass Tacks VOB 92.9. to start a much needed national discussion. We, as in all Barbadians, are stewards of our World Heritage Site but the unfortunate thing is we're not very aware of the space, it's importance to the world, or even the true extent of development plans for areas within our National site.
The discussion took place last Sunday August 27th on Down To Brass Tacks moderated by David Ellis.
The Panel:
💡Mr. Gordon Ashby Local Architect
💡Mrs. Lisa Stiebel Regionally Based Architect
💡Dr. Karl Watson Barbadian Historian
💡Mr. Steve Devonish, Director of Natural Heritage Department
💡Dr. the Hon. William F. Duguid, J.P., M.P., Senior Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for coordinating infrastructural projects
and myself...
💡Georgina Callender, Bridgetown Tour Guide, Culture & Heritage Brand Consultant
We all have different stances but are we of opposing points of view?
